The Jay Haide range of instruments has been developed over several years by I.F.Shin Violins of Berkeley, California in collaboration with master European luthiers. All Jay Haide instruments are hand made in China from quality seasoned spruce and flamed-maple and have a tonal quality and workmanship that is normally found in instruments costing considerably more. These instruments have been designed with the advanced student and semi-professional in mind, regardless, these instruments represent very good value for money.
The Jay Haide double bass that I have for sale and featured below is the classic Italian Panormo model 'a l'ancienne' finish (antiqued) with full upper and lower bouts with carved back. I receive these double basses without any fittings so the entire 'fit-up' is performed in my workshop by myself. The tuning machine heads (tuners) fitted are my own Baker model, bridges are Chevalets Despiau or Albert with aluminium adjusters, end pins are good quality German. Included in the standard offer are a set of Pirasto Evah Parizzi strings and a ready fitted 'C' extension which is easily removed if required. Included in the offer is a quality padded cover. This model is available with either an antiqued finish ("a l'ancienne") or the standard finish, in both cases very well executed, please refer to the Quenoil bass for an example of the standard finish.
