Repair & Restoration of Cellos & Double Basses |
This section comprises of a number of restoration, repair and alteration jobs that I have performed over the last few years and that have been recorded using digital photography. Most of the restorations included have been to double basses which is indicative of the historical fact that basses have not attracted very good quality of work and there is much in the bass world that requires rectification. In addition, due to their size they are frequently damaged and in need of repair making them fertile ground for visually interesting and varied restoration work. I hope that this section is found to be of interest and conveys the weight and depth of experience I have as a luthier in the restoration of orchestral string instruments. As I have so much photo content available to me, in the building of this web site I have continued with my ethos of letting my work speak for itself.
| Rebuilding of a William Howarth Double Bass | As a proffessionally trained luthier performing a practical occupation you will find no mission statement, philosophical discourse or theories here, and in place of 'intentions & ambitions' -simply results! These pictures of my work as a repairer and restorer should be enough to convey the high standards I set myself and continually work to. My experience enables me to calculate estimates promptly and accurately so they are normally not subject to change ensuring my clients knowledge of the final cost before the commencement of work. Completion dates for smaller repairs are normally given to the day, larger repairs quoted in weeks, and very large restorations will be quoted in months. At at all times I give realistic completion dates, agreed with my clients and kept to by myself. For further information or to make an appointment please contact me.
