I have been making and restoring orchestral string instruments for over 41 years. I started making cellos and 'progressed' to violas. In the mid nineteen eighties whilst working with Roger Dawson in Rotherhithe, London I added double basses to my luthier/maker repertoire. My English double basses are after the great London luthiers of the early 19th Century, the likes of Kennedy, Fendt, Lott and Hart. Production, if it can be called that is limited to two or three instruments a year as my work as a repairer and restorer keeps me occupied. Details of Martyn Bailey double basses for sale can be found by clicking on the link below. Custom instruments, copies, 5 string and left handed versions can be made to order, please contact me for details.
I have added Jay Haide double basses to the range I offer as they provide a good sounding, nicely made and an attractive instrument priced neatly between the lease expensive instruments on the market and my own. For further details on the Jay Haide double basses please click on the link below.
Also in stock is a fine Hungarian double bass by Akos Balazs, Gold Series English model detail of which can be found by clicking on the link below.
Please contact me to make an appointment should you wish to try out any of these instruments. More new double basses will be available for sale soon.
